Town Hall Meetings Begin on Nov. 9
The Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) Strategic Planning Task Force will hold a series of town hall meetings and focus group sessions that will give FAMU stakeholders an opportunity to provide input on the strategic planning process.
Faculty, staff, students, alumni, retirees, community members, and supporters are invited to offer suggestions on how FAMU can move forward in accomplishing its mission and goals as it revises its Strategic Plan.
“We want to explore ways to reenergize the campus, create ideation around program enrichment and funding strategies, and rethink how the University will achieve its core mission while performing at the highest level possible. It’s all about how we can come together as a community to move FAMU forward,” said President Elmira Mangum, Ph.D., about her goals for the strategic planning process.
Larry Robinson, Ph.D., chair of the task force, underscored that it is imperative that all FAMU stakeholders engage in the strategic planning process so that a unified vision for the future of the University can be developed.
“The Strategic Planning Task Force is charged with receiving input from all of our stakeholders in order to enhance and bolster our existing 2010-2020 Strategic Plan,” Robinson said. “President Mangum has tasked us with ensuring that the revised plan reflects the changes occurring in the higher education landscape.”
The first set of town hall meetings will be held on Monday, Nov. 9. The interactive meetings will include a series of sessions starting at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., and 5 p.m. The event will take place at the School of Business and Industry (SBI) located at 500 Gamble Street. Sessions will be held in the north wing of the building in Room G-12.
Each session will last an hour and 45 minutes. Topics of discussion include stakeholder engagement, fundraising and “friendraising,” conducting high-impact research, providing exceptional student experiences, and maintaining a distinguished and renowned faculty.
On Thursday, Nov. 12, a focus group session with FAMU retirees will be held at the FAMU Employee Club House from 1:30-3 p.m. The Club House is located at 2414 S. Adams Street.
The FAMU National Alumni Association will host a town hall meeting for the general public via teleconference on Nov. 16 from 8-10 p.m. The dial-in number is (712) 770-4010, and the access code is 474096.
